Botox/Filler Injections - Dallas/Ft. WorthNo one thing has increased the use of cosmetic services as much as BOTOX ® COSMETIC. Heavy lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows, the Crow’s-feet and other areas can be controlled or eliminated by the injection of this drug.. However, like most drugs, it is a poison if used in the wrong dose or area. One should use care in selecting the person injecting this drug. In the right hands it really works and can change your face from appearing tired and mad to relaxed and even happy. Why does a drug stops some muscles from contracting make a wrinkle go away? Many wrinkles and folds in the skin are set up by chronic and repeated contraction of the facial muscles beneath that area of skin. The skin has a memory that tends to hold that fold just like fabric holds the crease that is pressed in. Stopping the contractions of the muscles allows the skin to relax and the folds or creases go away. What is BOTOX®? It is the highly purified protein derivative of the toxin produced by the Botulinum bacterium. It blocks the nerve chemical impulse that causes contraction of the muscle. When the muscle can’t contract, the skin gradually relaxes with fading of the crease or fold. For cosmetic use, the toxin is highly diluted and used in very small amounts. It is safe when used properly. What areas area treated with BOTOX®? More and more areas are being shown in medical journals to be appropriate for this drug but basically some areas are well known. These include: the frown lines between lthe eyebrows, the forehead lines, the smile lines or crow’s feet lines on the sides of the eyes, and sometimes the lines and folds of the neck. Also BOTOX® is being used to control sweating in the armpits, palms and soles. FILLERSNot many years ago wrinkles were thought to be caused by skin and muscle stretching and sagging. Gravity was thought to have pulled the skin down and that had caused the wrinkles. Skin was cut out and muscles were tightened all to make the face and body smooth again. Then someone thought to x-ray and found that the muscles were the same length as they ever were; there had been no sagging or stretching. Aging and sun exposure had caused the underlying tissue to go away. Treatment of wrinkles has become the REPLACEMENT OF VOLUME NOT REMOVAL OF EXCESS. Replacement of volume can be completely natural, semi-natural or completely artificial.
Discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each of these divisions and the individual products or natural fillers in the division is complex. Before making a choice, one should discuss the options with your Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon.
